Year In Review: Our Favorite 2011 Fashion Trends

2012 is so close that we can already hear the kazoos blowing. But before you arm yourself with a fist full of confetti, we wanted to take a trip down memory lane to recall our fashion trend faves of 2011.

It's a no-brainer that colorblocking was hands down the most popular (and we might add, the most fun) trend of the year. While mixing and matching is nothing new for many fashionistas, this trend caused quite a frenzy. Bright pinks, blues, oranges, and teals were definitely our favorite showstopping hues of the year, especially when piled on top of each other! Pairing two and even three bold colors together would be something some "matchy-matchy" folks turn their noses up to. But from the runway to the street, colorblocking amplified the fashion scene, and will more than likely push its way into 2012.

All year long, bold and bright tribal prints were worn by celeb and hipster fashion mavens alike, making 2011 fashion truly upbeat thanks to this chic trend. From Native American-inspired ponchos to flirty Congo beat dresses, the tribal print trend surely added some spunk to wardrobes everywhere.

While in the past, sporting something you found in your brother's closet would almost instantly classify you to be a tomboy, 2011 was definitely a year of blurring the boundaries of women's fashion. Letterman jackets were an especially hot item this year, adding the perfect element of cool to just about any look.

This year served as one of the most influential when it comes to DIYing. The grim days of the economy were especially a drag for the fashion industry, which propelled many to make their own fashion essentials. We all know that trying to imitate even the chicest of runway trends can cost a pretty penny, which is why we adore this year's most innovative accessory: the headscarf! What better way to look fab--even on an unfortunate bad hair day--than with a sassy turban to complete your look? Fashion savvy gals everywhere rocked this easy trend effortlessly.

We can't wait to see what is in store for 2012 fashion! We wish you all a safe and fabulously fun New Year!

2012 Fashion: Retro to Dominate

As we bring 2011 to a close, I thought I’d write about what
is predicted to be the hottest trend for 2012:  the return of the renaissance of the 1920s and 1950s!

While I blogged last week about Tangerine Orange being the chosen
IT color of the year by Pantone, we’re also going to be seeing a mass return of
pastels and candy colors like gold, coral, lilac, cream and silver (Alexander
McQueen Summer 2012 show anyone?).

According to executive vice president of fashion and retail
trend consultants Tobe Report, Catherine Mollering said consumers can expect to
see “exotic safari looks, candy colors, flattering 50s-style dresses and
touches from the 20s” next year.
We’re talking drop waists, waistcoats, and beaded chiffon dresses.

Oh!  And don’t
forget the cloche hats!  I think we
also have the increased wave of British fashion obsession on Kate and Pippa
Middleton to thank!

Want to see it in action?  Take a look at the highlights video form the Ralph Lauren
Spring/Summer 12 collection above!

Victoria’s Secret Supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio Pregnant

This woman does it all!  Supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio not only graces some of the
most coveted high fashion runways, looking stunning in just about anything you
can put her in, but she’s now creating a 2nd angel bun in her oven!

The 30-year-old glamazon broke the news to Brazil’s Istole
Gente magazine, saying, “I’m going to be a mom.”

She’s 4 months along and does not yet know the sex of the
child.  This will be the 2nd
baby, with her 3-year-old daughter Anja already bearing her mother’s lovely
looks.

We wish the best to Alessandra and her longtime fiancé Jamie
Mazur!

Princess Diana’s Dresses on Display at Kensington Palace

She was dainty, mild natured, and oh-so elegant.  And now, 5 of Princess Diana’s most
famous dresses will go on display in an exhibition at Kensington Palace
starting March 26, 2012.

The display will showcase the black silk taffeta gown by
Emanuel that Diana wore to her first official engagement with Prince Charles
back in 1981.

People will also have a chance to see an ivory silk dinner
dress and a fuchsia silk chiffon dress, both by Catherine Walker.  A black silk shift dress by Versace,
and a black and white cocktail dress by Bellville Sassoon will finish the
collection.

What are your thoughts?  London anyone?

Jennifer Hudson’s Diva Outfits!

Jennifer Hudson is the visual definition of a diva.  She’s got style, class, confidence, and
a flare for the fashionably dramatic.
New York hosted this year’s VH1 Divas Celebrate Soul this week, and
Jennifer Hudson’s 4 wardrobe changes didn’t disappoint.

On the red carpet Miss Hudson rocked a beige Francesco
Scognamiglio mini dress with decorated thigh high boots, and then followed up
on stage in a fuchsia sequin gown by Dolce & Gabbana.  She finished the night with 2 looks by
The Blonds – a stunning and glittering Swarovski crystal decked gown, and a red
corset dress.

She looks fab!
